Acupuncture treatments
regain control of your physical & mental wellbeing
Types of Conditions treated
Acupuncture is one of the disciplines used under the Traditional Chinese Medicine umbrella and it offers a natural alternative therapy to treat conditions that are associated with physical and mental wellbeing.
Because Chinese Medicine is about re-balancing and supporting the body's natural rhythms, it avoids all side effects and can be particularly effective when pharmaceuticals and Western medicine are not able to offer alternatives. Equally it is helpful to use this therapy as a support alongside more conventional treatment due to its holistic nature.
Kate works to empower busy people to re-balance their lives by regaining control of their physical and mental wellbeing. She also works collaboratively with her patients to gain an understanding of the cause of disease and to make suggestions to support them.
In her Clinic Kate uses acupuncture to treat common physical conditions such a s pain relief, back pain, sciatica, arthritis, migraines and digestive disorders.
It is also highly effective at treating issues that show up with mental wellbeing such as depression, anxiety, lack of sleep and low energy.
Additionally Kate supports women in specific areas of women's health including:
Menstrual irregularities
Amenorhea, dysmenorrhea and PCOS
Acupuncture is a safe and effective tool at balancing hormones and is particularly helpful in supporting these issues due to its ability to quieten the nervous system. This has a powerful impact on the regulatory systems in the body, particularly the hormone system.
Please do get in touch if your symptoms are not listed and you would like to discuss your individual requirements with Kate.
types of symptoms
The menopause
Acupuncture is an excellent natural choice to support this transition time for women. It is very powerful at regulating the hormonal balance because of its ability to calm the nervous system. It is adept at treating the most common symptoms which are hot flushes, night sweats, insomnia, mood fluctuations and brain fog.
Infertility
Challenges conceiving can be stressful and the Western approach often exacerbates this situation. Looking at the body holistically is a very powerful adjunct to assisted fertility as it is so calming for the central nervous system. It is helpful for unexplained infertility, secondary infertility and to support IUI and IVF treatment.
pregnancy
Acupuncture is well documented as a safe and effective tool to support early pregnancy through to delivery itself. In the first trimester, it is helpful for anxiety, nausea & insomnia. In the second, for conditions such as sciatica & pelvic pain. And in the third, to turn breech babies, offer birth preparation treatments and to encourage labour.
anxiety
There is a growing body of research that supports the effectiveness of acupuncture for anxiety. There has been a marked increase in the young and adults coming into the clinic looking for support with symptoms of low mood, high anxiety and feelings of overwhelm. If you feel you are struggling with anxiety and need support, you can book an appointment online.
long covid
Long COVID has become a major issue in our post-pandemic world, and can affect the young and old. It can include a range of symptoms, such as extreme fatigue or shortness of breath, that can last weeks or months after being affected with the virus. Find out if you suffer from one of the symptoms of Long COVID that acupuncture can help with.
migraines & headaches
Headaches and migraines come to the fore when the body is out of balance in some way, and can be caused by many different factors including hormonal imbalance. Most patients experience a great improvement in their symptoms after a course of acupuncture. If you need help with migraines and headaches, you can book an appointment with our Kate Henley.

It will depend on the individual as everyone’s health journey is different. However as a rule of thumb, I like to see most people for 4 sessions and then offer a review.
As acupuncture is quite dynamic, we often know fairly soon how helpful it will be. You will learn exactly what to expect in your first session so you can have a clear idea of your treatment.

Acupuncture is a surprisingly painless procedure! I use very thin, sterile disposable needles and they are inserted using a guide tube. Sometimes there is a sensation on entry but this quickly wears off and leaves a dull heavy feeling and you feel very relaxed.
Overall the experience feels very calming and relaxing.
I also work with needle phobics who find the idea frightening and in this instance we use finger pressure, called acupressure, on the channels. Have a chat with me and we can adapt our session to suit!

Generally speaking treatment will leave you feeling calm and maybe even a little spaced out, in a good way!
Don't rush around but take your time to get home, have a sit down and a warm drink. Make the rest of the day quiet if possible.
Occasionally painful conditions can flare for a short period, if this happens, you will experience a big improvement when it settles.

Most private health care companies now pay for acupuncture.
As I am insured with the main acupuncture body, the British Acupuncture Council, you can call your health care provider and give them my practice details and they should tell you immediately if you can claim.
We will give you a receipt after treatment and you can send this on to the provider for reimbursement.
